Dermal fillers are generally most successful for men and women who seek a non-surgical method of facial enhancement. They can also be an ideal treatment for individuals wishing to avoid a prolonged recovery period or excessive downtime. If your aesthetic goals include temporarily correcting the appearance of facial volume deficiency, wrinkling, pronounced creases, or fine lines, dermal fillers may be able to provide the results you desire. Those considering treatment should be in good overall health and not be pregnant or nursing.

Although both treatments are used to combat the effects of the aging process, BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers differ in many ways. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a synthetic version of the protein derived from botulinum toxin used to temporarily relax the movement of facial muscles that are prone to forming expression lines. By relaxing these muscles, the appearance of “crow’s feet,” forehead lines, frown lines, and more can be minimized. In contrast, dermal fillers work to rejuvenate the face through subtle additions of volume. They can be used to fill in creases and folds for a smoother facial appearance, or augment the lips, cheeks, and hands for added volume and contour. The substances that make up dermal fillers vary by each product, but the most popular fillers are comprised of hyaluronic acid—a naturally-occurring substance in the body that hydrates the skin and helps it appear more youthful.

The frequency with which you should undergo touch-up treatments generally depends on the type of injectable used and your unique skin tissue. One to four treatments per year can typically achieve exceptional facial rejuvenation, although this is usually determined by which concerns you hope to address and the type of filler used. Most dermal fillers, depending on the treatment area, last approximately ten to fourteen months.

There are significant benefits to having a licensed provider, like a surgeon or nurse practitioner, performing your treatment. These providers have extensive knowledge of the different components of your skin tissue and facial anatomy, as well as the necessary aesthetic training and expertise to attain a beautiful result. This comprehensive experience can allow your injector to act quickly in the rare event that an adverse reaction arises and ultimately achieve results that look natural.

While injectables can provide excellent results, touch-up treatments will be necessary to maintain a youthful aesthetic. These treatments are temporary and non-invasive, and results are meant to be subtle, natural, and undetectable. Depending on the location and  severity of the concern, surgical intervention may be required. Additionally, a review of your full medical history is required to confirm that you are at little to no risk for any potential complications.

Fillers last for different amounts of time for various reasons. First, the location of injection is the most important. Areas that have more movement tend to break down filler faster. An example of this type of area is around the mouth or within the lips, which tend to have results lasting 6 to 9 months. In contrast, injections to the cheek area, which has less movement, last one year or longer. The type of filler, also, affects how long it lasts. For the most natural and best results, you should plan your follow-up treatment when you do your initial injection.

BOTOX® Cosmetic, in scientific terms, is a purified protein made from the bacteria that causes botulism, or botulinum toxin type A. In each treatment, these highly purified toxins are administered through a series of small injections into specific facial muscles that cause wrinkles and other signs of aging. This is highly effective at slowing down our constantly contracting muscles, thereby temporarily erasing or reducing horizontal forehead lines, vertical frown lines, crow’s feet, and other wrinkles.

Besides treating wrinkles, BOTOX® can also be used to lift areas of the skin that sag with age, such as the corners of your mouth. It can smooth out chins, reduce smoker’s lines, and soften neck cords. In addition, this product can decrease sweating under the arms and at the palms of your hands.

BOTOX® delivers a purified protein to block the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscles it’s injected into. As a result, it decreases the activity levels of these muscles and inhibits the wrinkle-forming process.

BOTOX® treatments are relatively quick, with the injection process taking only about 10 minutes. How long the results of your treatment will last will vary slightly according to your goals and areas you treat.

After a successful treatment, you will notice results within 5 to 7 days, with the final result around the two-week mark.

One of the many advantages of BOTOX® is its minimal recovery time. You can expect to be back to your daily schedule as soon as you leave the office.

The effects will last up to four months, meaning regular treatments are advised for the best results. After around four months without treatment, frown lines and wrinkles may gradually return to their pre-treatment states.

A common misconception is that BOTOX® treatments result in numbness or a loss of sensation. However, with an experienced provider, this is not the case. After a thorough evaluation and proper dosage, this procedure should leave you looking and feeling younger without any numbness afterward.

Absolutely! In the last two decades, the number of men receiving cosmetic treatments has more than tripled. BOTOX® is used widely by both men and women to treat crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines. We are happy to accommodate the needs of both men and women.
